South Sudan, on October 14, joined the globe to mark World Standards Day (WSD).
The day is observed annually to highlight the importance of standards and conformity assessment procedures in ensuring consumer safety and combatting substandard goods.
This year, the event is commemorated under the theme “Our Shared Vision for a Better World,” aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”
South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) Executive Director, Gloria Nyoka said the theme focuses on addressing social inequality, climate change, and economic challenges.
“It requires the cooperation of many public and private partners, and the use of all available tools, including standards and conformity assessment procedures,”Nyoka said.
She cited that the intense battle against global climate change shows the absolute necessity of addressing SDGs in an inclusive way to strengthen societies.
“Today, we are asking you to join us on a mission that affirms the importance of the SDGs to build back better. In this pursuit, standards are more relevant than ever,” Nyoka added.
She continued, “the entire standards system is built on collaboration; it is a testament to the power of collaboration and the belief that we are stronger than the sum of our parts.”
The Executive Director of the Bureau of Standards reaffirmed her commitment to protecting the interests of citizens.
“In this regard, the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards will continue to provide standardization and technical guidance in addition to our efforts to provide the basis for developing policies and effective regulations,” she said.
“That encourages cooperation in improving wellbeing, safety and protection of the consumers and the environment in South Sudan.”
Mrs. Nyoka applauded stakeholders, partners and her team at the Bureau of Standards for their dedication to ensuring the nation is free from unwanted products.
