Dutch Ambassador, Justice Minister discuss rule of law

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and South Sudan Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, on Wednesday to explored collaborative strategies for strengthening the rule of law in the country.

The discussion with minster Ruben Madol Arop, five weeks after Ambassador Paul Tholen arrived in the country, engaged in an insight on challenges facing South Sudan in the realm of legal governance.

“We had an interesting discussion and exchange about the challenges that confront South Sudan in the area of rule of law. We agreed to pursue areas where we will be able to collaborate in the future in the area of strengthening the rule of law,” Tholen said.

Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Joseph Malek Arop, highlighted key topics discussed during the meeting, including the implementation of the peace agreement, transitional justice, accountability, and reconciliation efforts.

“We briefed the ambassador about the human rights situation and administration of justice across the country,” Arop noted. “Especially security laws to complete the implementation of the peace agreement among others,”

The meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing legal frameworks and promoting justice in South Sudan, as both parties expressed their commitment to addressing the pressing issues within the country’s legal system.
