The parties or the signatories to the agreement yesterday exchange different views on Sexual Gender Based violent (SGBV) report, made by ceasefire and transitional security arrangement monitoring and verification mechanism (CTSAMVM).
Signatories argued that some Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) are paid to make a report indicating that there are cases of SGBV, while others think otherwise however they all agreed that there is a need of more verification on the report.
This came during the technical committee meeting arrange by CTSAMVM, while the signatories were the Former Detainees (FDs), South Sudan opposition Alliance (SSOA), and the Sudan People Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM -IO) among others present.
Speaking during the meeting, the FD representative Major Gen. Bior Leek called on all the Females to be vigilance, so not to be victims of SGBV.
“Those who wish South Sudan to die will search for some soft ground, so am calling on my Mothers, daughters and wives to remain vigilance, because they are the one being targeted,” he said.
He added that sometimes women are call, to register their names in rape cases list, adding that “So now why are there no rape cases in Jonglei, warrap, lake State, am doubting this report, this is a report without names, how are we going to make justices, I want names,”
He continues to urge the governor of Unity State to conduct investigation and also form committees to look into rape issues in his State.
While the Representative of SSOA, Brigadier Gen. Samuel Chan called on CTSAMVM to allow the representative of the parties to go down to the areas where issues of SGBV are reported for more clarifications on the reported presented.
“I am requesting CTSAMVM to allow the senior members that are the parties’ representative to go down where these issues happen and we can come and do it in good faith, because in this report the name of the victims is not written,” he said.
Chan added that NGOs reported lest than 53 cases of rape, while the government reported 53 cases, empathizing that in this case the only thing that is needed is the names of the victims for authentication of the report.
Meanwhile, SPLM -IO Representative Major Gen. Chuol Ruey Kompuok is questioning the raising cases of SGBV.
“This report of SGBV should be made clear, I also question the way SGBV is increasing instate of reducing, so serious look is needed into this but am not blaming any party,” he mentions.
