The ministry of Education in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has announced the recruitment of 60 qualified teachers to improve learning.
The new teachers shall be assigned in schools which are turned into modern learning schools namely; Aweil National, Salam Girls, Santo Ayang, Malek Alel, Gok Machar, Nyamlell and Aweil Madina Secondary schools.
According to the Director General Santino Bol Akot, each of these teachers shall be paid 60,000 South Sudanese pounds per month apart from regular salaries.
Bol also announced the registration of the academic year to begin on 21st March 2022 meanwhile the lessons will start on the 4th April 2022.
The ministry has also instructed the private schools to renew their annual operation licenses with fees worth 100,000 pounds per school.
“Private schools are therefore informed to renew their annual operation licenses before 4th April 2022,” Director General Bol Akot said.
For their part, a member of Parent’s Teachers Association [PTA] in Aweil East County Madam Mary Abuk Garang appreciated the ministry of Education for the tangible improvement but urged them to improve schools structures in the remote locations.
“Many of the schools operate under trees or are open spaces. Others have very old buildings which discourage learners and teachers especially in the public schools. Personally, I see there is a need to improve the learning facilities,”
Mr. Mark Dut Deng, a teacher in one of the schools in the state called for improvement of hygiene in the schools.
“What makes schools attractive is the hygiene especially when there is a latrine which is clean as well as a clean learning environment; this alone motivates the school children to feel comfortable. But here very few schools have a clean environment,” he said.
