A heartless mother reportedly forsaken her new born six-days old baby and threw it into a pit latrine in Juba’s Newsite neighborhood yesterday, but luckily enough a social worker rescued the baby from the pit and was rushed to the hospital.
The director of an Orphanage center, Ms. Betty Thomas told No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday that, she came to the rescue of the baby after police called her to help pick the six-days old forsaken baby.
She said they rescued the baby from the pit latrine about one hour later after it was noticed.
“The baby was thrown in the toilet this morning by his mother and the baby stay in the toilet for almost one hour. police called me, then I went and pick the baby,” she narrated.
Betty said she immediately took the ditched baby to the hospital for general checkup, and it was receiving medication.
“The mother of the Baby is there pretending crying she doesn’t want to talk, and she doesn’t know even the father of the baby. then I just take the baby and rushed with it to the hospital,” she narrated.
The social worker stated that after the checkup the doctor prescribed three days injections for the baby adding that the baby will stay with her at the orphanage.
“Is not good to dump the children in the pit latrine or toilet, if you don’t want the child come to police station there is a gender officer, if not to hospital rather than throwing the child,” she advised.
“We have received such kind of incidents about the children being jilted by their parents for eight to nine times here in Juba from the year 2022-2023,” she disclosed.
She urged parents not to abuse their pregnant daughters, saying they should not be chased out of the house because they don’t have any choice that is why they will think of rejecting their babies.
“Men should not also reject the ladies whom they have impregnated, they should learn how to accept on what they have done. because as a mother its very painful to watch your daughter pregnant, while the person who is responsible for the pregnancy run away from his responsibility,” she continued.
Meanwhile the National Police Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, said that the police will investigate to establish the facts behind the act of the mother.
