The governor of Western Equatoria State, Alfred Futuyo karaba has last week announced his government plan to construct Sue River Bridge which is devastated
Governor Futuyo said the bridge has been the obstacle of service delivery to the communities across the river, adding the current status of the bridge only limited to 8 tons
“From Yambio to this place (Sue) is 45mile and up to Nadiangere is 105 mile, first of all people here are suffering from lack of road connectivity and this bridge can’t take 10 tons, the maximum now is 8 tons, so we have come with Engineer to come and asses to see how we can repair the bridge to the level that can take 500 tons” Futuyo pledged
He said after the construction of the bridge the government will repatriate the people who were displaced by the conflict from 1990s to 2017, saying they are going to rehabilitate the road together with the host communities
“This year as there is peace, the road must be maintain so that those displaced people should be returned as returnees, we are coordinating with NGOs so that all the people who fled from conflict should be taken back that is aim of our visit” the governor lamented.
“We are going to repair the bridge and maintain the road by all means together with the communities because they are eager to return where they came from, we are not here for politic we came to do the development” he continued.
Governor Futuyo was accompanied by the Director General in the Ministry of Road and Bridge to assess the road. Meanwhile Engineer Richard Minzani assured the community of the ministry’s commitment to support the road project.
“I am very happy because hon. Governor invited me to come and inspect the road from Yambio to Nadiangere that is why we are here on the bridge of Sue to see the condition” Engineer Richard said.
Sue River is located north of Yambio Town about 45 miles. And the Sue old Bridge was constructed by the British in 1962 and later rehabilitated by World Vision International Organization in 1998.
