Northern Bahr El Ghazal state (NBGs) government, Aweil municipal council and the police have agreed to return assortment of toxic alcohols spirits that were confiscated from traders.
The police spokesperson in NBG, Captain, Guot Guot Akol, said the municipal authority has directed that the drinks be given back to the owners.
The traders have also been directed to take the alcoholic drinks that included Star Gin, Boss Gin, Zebra Gin and others in cartons, out of the state.
“We have over three thousand cartons in the stores” the police spokesperson said.
“As police, we just implement the rule of law. The traders will be escorted out of the state to the borders of their choices that they want to go and sell them out” Guot stated.
Police said the ban was meant to minimize the rate of crimes in the state which was blamed on drinking of strong alcoholic spirits.
Some youth reportedly vandalized properties, killing people, looting at will due to an alleged influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, a resident, Mr. Dut Amuk Lual appreciated the government move to impound the drinks but wonders why they have allowed other traders in the counties to sell similar liquor.
“Even Shisha or hookah was banned but now people are still using them. The government has to stay vigilant on the laws it fixes” he said, adding that “Never fix laws and revert it.”
It remains to be seen whether the crimes will diminish in the state as the liquor and all other forms of strong alcoholic spirit associated with criminality will be expelled from the state.
