Heavy rainfall of greater than 200 mm is expected over isolated areas in the northern parts of South Sudan, while moderate amount of 50 –200 mm, spreads over the rest of the country, according to an alert.
The Food and Agriculture Organization weather alert also predicted that Light rainfall of less than 50 mm is anticipated over isolated areas in the south-eastern parts of the country.
“Torit, Ikoto, Budi, and Greater Kapoeta counties in Eastern Equatoria state and over isolated areas in Western Equatoria state,” the report specified.
Mr. Badreldin Fartak, the Forecaster and Communication Officer of South Sudan Meteorological Services clarified that the weekly forecast indicated moderate rainfall between 50–200mm in parts of the country.
“Western Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Western Bahr-El Ghazal, Lakes State, Warrap State, Unity State Northern Bahr –El Ghazal State,” he listed.
The week-long forecast from 27th June – 4th July 2023, indicates that parts of Pibor Administrative Area, Upper Nile State and Parts of Eastern Equatoria are expected to have that amount of rainfall.
However, warmer temperature expected is 32 degrees in Eastern Equatoria State, and the lower temperature expected is 16 degrees, Badreldin described.
In the region, wetter than usual conditions are expected over central to western Ethiopia, western Eritrea, and southern Sudan in the next week, according to IGAD Climate Predication and Application Center.
Warmer-than-average temperatures are expected across the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) the center added.
