Ajith Primary School headmaster in Aweil South County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has been arrested for assaulting Ayai Payam education supervisor.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Ayai market.
According to an eyewitness, Ayai Payam education supervisor, Abraham Mangok, was beaten to comma after informing the headmaster of his replacement.
Mangok, who was acting on directives of Aweil South County Education Director but ended up nursing injuries after delivering the message.
“Mr. Mangok was forced to meet him [the headmaster] at Ayai market to persuade him to hand over the office. The headmaster then assaulted Mr. Mangok, leaving him injured and unconscious,” the source said.
“Everyone at the market was shocked,” the eyewitness who requested anonymity further described the scene during the encounter.
The source blamed the incident on a lack of leadership training.
“Teachers need proper motivation and training to manage schools effectively. How can someone resort to violence in such a situation?” he expressed.
The headmaster is currently detained at Malek-Alel police station. And Mr. Mangok the victim is receiving medical treatment.
The eyewitness underscored the application of the law in such scenario saying “Thankfully, others witnessed the assault, so the accused cannot deny it. The law will take its course,”
This incident highlights concerns about leadership practices in South Sudan. Some view leadership positions as a means for personal gain, contributing to a culture of corruption.
