Dr. Machar, Gituai discuss status of peace deal

First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and the interim chairperson of RJMEC, Maj. Gen Charles Tai Gituai on Wednesday, discussed the implementation of the 2018 peace deal.

According FVP’s press unit, Dr. Machar and RJMEC teams mulled over the deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces, impact of Sudan war and influx of refugees and returnees creating dire humanitarian situation.

“The meeting discussed the 2018 revitalized agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” statement reads in part.

“The discussion encompassed topics on the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF); the impact the Sudan war has on South Sudan, the influx of the refugees and returnees and the humanitarian situation in the country,” it added.

Based on Dr. Machar’s press office, the duos also discussed the prospect of the conduct of 2024 general elections.

“The First Vice President briefed the RJMEC’s interim Chairperson on the status of the agreement and the progress made so far as well as challenges facing the implementation of the agreement,” partly reads the statement on FVP page.

Addressing the media after meeting, RJMEC boss, Gituai stated they had deliberated on the status of implementation of the revitalized peace agreement

“We came to share notes with H.E the first Vice president of the Republic, on the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement as well as progress and the work that has been done as far,” Gituai was quoted saying.
