Authorities in Lafon County, Eastern Equatoria State, are requesting immediate delivery of medical supplies to all primary healthcare units across the county.
Visor Likali, a state legislator representing Lafon County, raised the concerns, stating that all primary healthcare centres in the county have run out of essential and sensitive drugs, including syringes.
Likali lamented that the long delay by health partners in distributing medicines to the state’s counties is posing grave dangers to the health of citizens.
“The primary healthcare centres in Lafon lack even a single syringe, and people are resorting to using vaccine syringes, which is not ideal,” Likali explained.
“I was disappointed to learn that two weeks ago, there was a reported distribution of medicines to all counties, but now, three weeks later, Lafon is still without these crucial supplies.”
The legislator also urged all humanitarian partners working in Lafon County to familiarize themselves with the geographical challenges in the area, such as the heavy rainfall that has damaged the roads leading into the county.
He encouraged them to utilize the county’s operational airstrip, which is accessible year-round, to ease the delivery of goods and services to the people.
“My message to them and to any partner who will be operating in Lafon is that they must be aware of the geographical location and the situation in the area,” Likali said.
“When it’s the rainy season, we have a very functional airstrip that is working throughout the year, whether it’s the rainy or dry season. They must use it if they genuinely mean to provide humanitarian aid.”
Likali called on the Ministry of Health to take this issue seriously and ensure that the necessary medical supplies are delivered to the people of Lafon County without further delay.
