South Sudan is mourning the death of Lt. Gen. Bior Ajang Duot, a prominent leader and former Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).
Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, confirmed that General Bior passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at his residence in Juba due to cardiac arrest.
Bwogo stated on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, expressing deep sorrow over the untimely death of General Bior.
“The honourable minister, deputy minister, undersecretary, and the entire staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, both at headquarters and missions abroad, announce with heavy hearts the untimely death of Ambassador Bior Ajang,” Bwogo said in a statement. “He died yesterday due to cardiac arrest.”
Bwogo also extended condolences to General Bior’s family, relatives, and friends.
General Bior Ajang, also known as Bior Asuod, was a key figure in South Sudan’s liberation struggle. Born on January 1, 1947, in Kongor, Twic East County, Jonglei State, Bior played a crucial role in the nation’s journey to independence.
In 2015, General Bior transitioned from his position as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs to become a First Class Ambassador and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
His leadership extended beyond his official roles; until his death, he was also the chairperson of the Twic East Community Association, reflecting his enduring commitment to his community and country.
General Bior’s legacy is one of resilience and commitment to the sovereignty and development of South Sudan. His passing marks the end of an era for many who knew him as a steadfast leader and advocate for his nation’s progress.
