The newly appointed Commissioner of Cueibet County, Deng Mario Deng, has enacted an immediate ban on the sale of both imported and local alcoholic beverages, as well as harmful drugs, citing their contribution to instability.
Upon his arrival in the county, Commissioner Deng directed all security organs to enforce the ban without delay.
He further stressed discipline among local administrators and traditional chiefs, urging them to focus on their roles as community leaders rather than engaging in politics.
“You are leaders of the community,” he reminded them.
Deng also warned security forces against unlawful detentions, underscoring that they should only hold those who have committed crimes.
“I am here to serve you and ensure the provision of necessary services, not to exploit your properties,” he assured the community.
Additionally, he cautioned against criminal activities such as looting, cattle raiding, and theft.
The commissioner highlighted the importance of promoting girls’ education and discouraging early and forced marriages.
Chol Kutwel Mahnom, Lakes State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, urged Deng to operate within the legal frameworks established at both the national and state levels.
He assured the newly appointed commissioner of support regarding security and developmental initiatives in the county.
Members of the Lakes State Transitional Legislative Assembly also expressed their support.
MP William Manyuon Wantok welcomed Deng’s appointment and his decision to ban alcohol sales, underlining the detrimental effects of alcohol on the younger generation.
Paramount Chief Run Arol Kachuol pledged that the chiefs would cooperate with the new commissioner to improve the welfare of the Gok community.
