A former South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) officer has emerged among the top performers in the recently announced Secondary 4 (S4) results in Northern Bahr El Ghazal.
In Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, out of over 2,000 students who sat the exams, 114 achieved passing grades that would qualify them to join the University.
Governor Simon Uber Mawut while announcing the results congratulated the successful candidates and assured them that his administration is committed to operationalizing Northern Bahr El Ghazal State University, currently under construction.
Mawut noted ongoing fundraising efforts amid questions regarding their use.
“I have consulted with the national government, and we are making progress toward establishing the university,” Mawut stated.
“Those who have passed will have local opportunities for higher education, eliminating the need to seek schooling in Wau or Juba.”
The governor concluded by encouraging students who did not pass to register for next year’s exams to improve their chances.
Among the top ten students is Akol Mawein, a former South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) member.
Mawein, who previously took exams in Ethiopia in 1992, aimed to obtain a South Sudan Secondary Certificate to reflect his nationality.
He excelled in subjects such as English, Math, and Science, achieving an A, and got a B+ in Agriculture.
He currently works as a clinical officer at the Outpatient Department in Aweil after studying clinical medicine at Aweil Health Science Institute.
Despite personal challenges, including the loss of his wife, he aspires to further his medical education and specialize in a scientific field.
