Lawmaker wants NGOs near State House, shift away

A Member of Parliament at the National Assembly, Ghada James Kulang, has called for the relocation of international organizations operating near the Presidential Palace, known as J-1.

MP. Ghada stated that for security and intelligence data protection, organizations at zero proximity to the state house must be relocated to someplace further to avoid unwanted infiltration.

“The presidential House in this country if you compare to other countries there are no NGOs very close in terms of infrastructure and building surrounding the presidency office or Houses,” the lawmaker said.

She cited the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as an example of organizations that must be relocated.

“I feel that this point of information is important to look seriously into this case,” Ghada said.

“The Minster of Housing should see how to relocate these International organizations that surrounding our presidential palace,” she advised.

According to the lawmaker, most of the presidential offices and Houses in the region that she visited have no organizations or any private business premises close to the presidential palace.

“I went to Kenya, I got the president House – there is nothing close, in terms of security and intelligence there are other things can really pick [information],” MP. Ghada cautioned.

“We know the computer and advancement of the science when it comes to leaking [spying] of information,” she continued “With this Rt. Speaker, I think it important to look into this within our committee for infrastructure and Housing to see how to handle this case,”

In response, the speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba advised the lawmaker to put his information in writing and table it before the August House to be deliberated on.
