South Sudan Police Services (SSPS) urges media outlets and social media users to practice accuracy in reporting incidences.
Deputy Police Spokesperson, SSPS, Maj. Lith Wilson Simon made the call following killing of a muezzin and injuring another individual in machete and knife attack, on Sunday morning.
“We urge all media outlets and social media users to provide only verified and accurate information to avoid any rumours or misunderstandings,” Maj. Lith stressed in a press statement.
The incident, at a Mosque in Nimira-Talata in Juba involved a South Sudanese citizen, Musa Abubaker Mealu, aged 49, who was killed by Sudanese suspect, Omer Ibrahim Aleibad.
Meanwhile, authorities responded swiftly to rush Ahmed Abaker Mohammed, aged 27, who also injured to Juba Teaching Hospital for treatment.
According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson, the suspect, arrested by the police, faces a criminal charge in a case opened at the Central Police Division in Malakia.
Maj. Lith says that an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
“As the investigation progresses, updates will be provided to the public regarding the cause of this incident,” Maj. Lith assures that public.
The police call upon the community to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest station.
