More than 890,000 people have been affected by floods across the country, according to the latest update from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Currently, approximately 226,000 people have been displaced due to the floods, with Unity State reporting the highest number at 114,480 displaced individuals.
“The latest increase is attributed to newly confirmed numbers of affected people in the Abyei Administrative Area, Western Bahr el Ghazal and Lakes states,” the update stated.
On October 3, the Council of Ministers endorsed a declaration of a state of emergency in the flood-affected states.
This declaration aims to mobilize resources and support for the affected populations, ensuring that aid reaches those in need promptly.
South Sudan is experiencing unprecedented flooding. The latest forecast from the weathermen indicates above-average rainfall, the increased river flows from Uganda, and the potential for record-breaking floods.
