In a significant move aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and fostering Pan-Africanism, South Sudan and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to working together.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, welcomed his Ugandan counterpart, Hon. Henry Oryem Okello, Uganda State Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs, to Juba on Tuesday.
During their meeting, both ministers emphasized the importance of regional integration through the East African Community (EAC) for the economic prosperity and well-being of the region’s citizens.
They also highlighted the need to create a unified market for trade and businesses within East Africa.
Ambassador Kumba expressed gratitude for Uganda’s offer to train cadres of South Sudan’s ruling party, the SPLM, in its political school. He described this as a significant step towards strengthening ideological cooperation and promoting Pan-Africanism.
Uganda State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okello echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the historical and fraternal ties between the two countries.
He called for the immediate revival of the Northern Corridor Integrated Project to enhance connectivity and development in the region.
The Ugandan minister also expressed the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) willingness to train SPLM cadres in its political school to facilitate the exchange of ideological perspectives.
This meeting underscores the strong bilateral relationship between South Sudan and Uganda and their shared commitment to regional integration and Pan-Africanism.
