The newly appointed Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS), General Akec Tong Aleu, has pledged to take a strong stance against corruption.
During his reception at the NSS headquarters (Blue House) on Tuesday, Gen. Akec declared commitment to combating corruption from day one of his tenure.
“From today onward, the malpractices of corruption that are taking place in this country will stop today,” Akec said.
The Internal Security Bureau Director General reiterated that his tenure would not tolerate corruption, citing that it is a redline.
He promised never to Favor anyone, including their relatives, should they be found in the practice of corruption.
Akec issued a stern warning to some of his relatives who may be engaging in corruption but later seek cover, adding that corruption will never be tolerated.
“I have a relative among you, but do not see me as your relative; no, even my son is among you; my own children are among you, but this is a redline (corruption); do not cross if you cross it; you carry your own cross,” he said.
Akec appreciated President Salva Kiir for the chance and promised to use it as his last opportunity to reduce corruption in the country.
“I do not want to corrupt my legacy, which I found for this country,” he said.
He reiterated that as an exemplary leader who has never been involved in cases of corruption, he would be able to fight the vice.
Gen. Akec noted that the NSS has faced significant criticism and emphasized the importance of refocusing on its intended mandate.
“I want to be exemplary to this nation because all of us who came from Bush are being accused of that (corruption),” he added.
Akec appreciated the former Director of Internal Security, Bureau Gen. Akol Koor Kuc, for transforming the security service.
He called on all the security officers to be united and work together in order to achieve more in the national security service.
In his part, Minister for National Security, Gen. Isaac Obuto Mamur mete, called on the security officers to encourage teamwork to meet their mandate.
He cautions the NSS members to look critically and prevent anyone who might have bad intentions toward the country.
“Look critically at those who wanted to bring down the flag of South Sudan,” he said.
He urged all the officers to distance themselves from malpractices that divert their attention from the assigned task.
Early this month, President Salva Kiir summarily relieved the long-serving Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS), Gen. Akol Koor Kuc.
In a decree broadcast on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), President Kiir appointed Akec Tong Aleu as the new Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the NSS.
