As three girls were abducted from Jonglei State on Sunday, this only piles on a list of several other victims of the vice.

Akobo County being one of the hotspots, every year that unfolds, wraps up with reports of child abduction. Lirya and Mangala in Central Equatoria State, Lowoi in Torit County, Lafon and Kapoeta counties of Eastern Equatoria State suffer similar fate.

Reports from former abductees reveal that the captives are either traded in exchange for animals or illegally adopted by their captors, who are claimed to be childless.

Whereas some captives are well-kept, others are tortured throughout their life at the hands of their illegal guardians.

Continuous subjection of hundreds of children who have been abducted from various areas surrounding Greater Pibor Administrative Area amounts to human rights violation.

These children are entitled to security and safety by the state; hence the government must take responsibility for their suffering and take stringent measures against the perpetrators.

It is within the mandate of the national government to designate areas of rampant abduction as of security concern and deploy forces to pursue the perpetrator in order to end this vice.
