United States Embassy in South Sudan join partners in the humanitarian and development assistance community to commemorate a day of action aimed at strengthening protection from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment within the aid sector.
In a press statement released on Monday, the U.S. Embassy emphasized the need for accountability and protection in relation to USAID programming, highlighting its role in the success of humanitarian efforts.
“The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan urges all participants in the humanitarian and development assistance sector to adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment,” the statement reads. “Uphold the dignity and safety of all individuals by actively preventing such acts.”
The Embassy calls for immediate investigations into all allegations, supported by transitional government authorities, and stresses that swift, appropriate actions must be taken against perpetrators, ensuring that survivors receive the necessary support.
Furthermore, it underscores a collective responsibility to foster a culture of accountability and encourages individuals to report concerns without fear of retaliation.
