National Minister of Information, Michael Makuei met with Jonglei State governor and discussed “critical” challenges affecting the people in the state.
On Wednesday, Governor Biel discussed several issues arising from floods, telecommunication networks, insecurity and prison facilities, calling for urgent intervention from the national government.
The counties severely affected by the floods include Fangak, Twic East, Nyirol, some parts of Bor and Uror. While areas experiencing telecommunication network blackout are, Ayod, Nyirol, Uror, Fangak, Twic East and Pigi counties.
Among other issues are increased incidents of violence including revenge killings and cattle raiding that have created further insecurity across the state.
Biel also called for urgent need for a new prison facility to help manage law enforcement and improved community safety.
In response, Makuei expressed his commitment to collaborate closely with the Jonglei State government to enhance security and support for the affected communities.
The minister assured that efforts are underway to deploy improved network coverage to remote areas after the rainy season, so as to boost connectivity, reduce child exploitation and support development across the state.
Makuei also emphasized the need for telecommunication operators to strengthen their network coverage across the country especially in the rural areas.
