Journalist Angelo Muorater released

Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) in Warrap State has announced the release of journalist Angelo Muorater Duang, who was arrested on November 1st, 2024.

Duang was officially freed on November 4th, following a resolution of issues surrounding his detention.

In a letter dated November 5th, 2024, Daniel Mareng Wek, the UJOSS Coordinator for Warrap State, confirmed that the release came after successful mediation efforts by the UJOSS state team, working alongside the complainant.

This mediation resulted in a peaceful settlement of the case, leading to Duang’s release.

“We are pleased to report that through dialogue and collaboration, we were able to resolve the situation in a peaceful and just manner,” Mareng stated.

He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Warrap State, the State Police Commissioner, and the UJOSS headquarters for their support in securing justice for the journalist.

Additionally, UJOSS Warrap State expressed gratitude to the family of the complainant for their cooperation in allowing the mediation process to unfold.

This effort helped address the misunderstanding and ensured a fair and timely resolution.

The release of Duang marks a positive development for press freedom in South Sudan, with UJOSS reaffirming its commitment to advocating for the rights of journalists across the country.
