South Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Cecilia Adut Manyok, addressed the UN Security Council, reaffirming the country’s dedication to regional cooperation and peace.

Adut emphasized the significant strides South Sudan has made toward holding its long-awaited elections and assured the Council that there would be no further delays or extensions.

During her remarks, Adut highlighted South Sudan’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with its neighboring countries and international allies, stressing that these relationships are vital for maintaining both domestic peace and regional stability.

“South Sudan acknowledges the importance of fostering regional cooperation and partnership with our neighbors and international allies,” she said. “These relationships are essential in maintaining peace and stability both domestically and across the region.”

Adut credited President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s proactive engagement with regional leaders as a cornerstone of South Sudan’s peace efforts.

She emphasized that peace dialogue remains central to the country’s development and that the government is working diligently to ensure that the political process moves forward without further setbacks.

“In pursuit of these goals, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has actively engaged with regional leaders. We believe that the peace dialogue underscores South Sudan’s commitment to peace.”

Reassuring the UN Security Council of South Sudan’s resolve, Adut confirmed that the government is taking all necessary measures to meet its electoral deadlines, aiming for no further delays or extensions.

“South Sudan is determined to uphold its promises for democratic elections and ensure that the country moves forward without further postponements,” she added.

Her statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to demonstrate South Sudan’s progress since the signing of the peace agreement and the subsequent formation of a unity government.

The country is preparing for its first elections in years, following a period of conflict and instability, and the international community continues to monitor its steps toward full peace and democratic governance.
