Raiders kill a man over cattle in Torit County

An attempted cattle raid ended in killing of 29-year-old man in Haforere village, Torit County, Eastern Equatoria state.

According to local authority, the victim, identified as Ofere Miho was killed in an attempted raid by a group of youth, suspected from Hiyala.

The suspects attempted to raid cattle and launch a revenge attack but fail in an ambush, leading to the dead of one person while two others escaped.

The local authorities said that the body of the deceased has remained at the scene as youth from Hiyala could not pick it in fear of further clash.

Gabriel Ohide sub chief of Hiyala told the media that the incident happened on Saturday at mid-day.

“These youth went to Haforere side. They were three. They went to raid and planning to kill in order to pay back their fellow colleague that was killed by Haforere people. Sure, they felt into ambush and they were shot at and they killed one person wounding also one” Ohide said.

Galilieo Ohide, paramount chief of Hiyala also confirmed the incident, calling on the government to intervene in addressing the matter before it escalates.

He said revenge killings between the youth of Hiyala and Haforere is alarming as many people continue to lose their lives.

Effort to reach authorities of Haforere for comment was not successful.
