Juba County Legislative Council approved a historic budget of 15,617,471,860 South Sudan pounds for the fiscal year 2024/2025.
It was passed yesterday during a council meeting held at the county headquarters.
The budget is expected to prioritize effective service delivery to the people, including addressing insecurity and land-grabbing cases within Juba County.
Juba County Commissioner, Emmanuel Tete welcomed the passing of the budget by the councilors, describing it as tremendous and requiring internal resources mobilization for self-sufficiency to deliver services to the people.
“This is a historic moment for Juba County,” said the commissioner, adding that, “we will focus on internal resources and prioritize self-sufficiency, including providing healthcare within the county.”
Daniel Jada Marcelo, Speaker of Juba County Legislative Council said, the budget will enable them to address critical issues like insecurity, land grabbing and poor service delivery, noting, “we aim to improve the living conditions of our residents.”
This comes days after Central Equatoria State’s Minister of Finance tabled the state budget worth SSP 46 billion.
Last month, Commissioner Tete reconstituted the County Legislative Council with emphasis on collaboration and task prioritization of the legislative councilors as well as the executive council in order to address the challenges facing the county.
This cooperation between the legislative and executive bodies is said to be an instrumental tool for achieving desirable goals.
