Governor Ukelo urged to regulate prices

By Yiep Joseph

Commander Dau Aturjok, of Division Five of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), has urged the governor to take action in regulating market prices, as traders continue to charge residents excessively.

During the reception ceremony for Governor Ukelo in Wau on Monday, Commander Dau emphasized that while the army is dedicated to protecting citizens and their property, it is important for the governor to focus on stabilizing market prices.

He pointed out that many residents are unable to afford the skyrocketing prices, which seem to rise daily.
Dau highlighted the urgent need for price control to alleviate the financial burden on the community and ensure access to essential commodities.

“The market moves up daily, which means it is moving on its own; it is not good that the government should control it,” he added.

He appealed to the government to work hard to ensure that prices are regulated to reduce exploitation of the citizens by the traders in the market.

Dau vowed to support the government to ensure that prices are regulated in the market to enable citizens to afford essential goods.

He added that Western Bahr el Ghazal state continues to face challenges such as poor infrastructure, health, and education that need to be improved.

“The state needs food, the state needs clean water, and the state needs medicine. You cannot do them all at once, but you can do one. Remember you,” he said.

“That road you passed through is not ok; you need to renovate,” he said.

Commander Dau promised to cooperate with the governor to ensure that peace is attained in the area in order to pave the way for development.

He urged the residents to embrace peace as the national government continued with the peace agreement.
The Commander called on governor to fight hunger, adding that most people lack food while food insecurity continues to affect the population.

On his part, Emmanuel Primo Ukello, governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal, promised to work hard to ensure that services are delivered to the residents.

He expressed that his government would focus on service delivery, peace, and stability.
Ukello urged the residents to embark on peace in order to pave the way for development.
