A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for stabbing his friend, identified as Kuol Deng, to death on Tuesday in Aweil town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, but a source from the Mathiang neighbourhood in Aweil revealed that the incident arose from a disagreement over money related to a motorbike.

Garang Mou Aher recounted that the two boys had a heated argument regarding the motorbike money when the victim confronted the suspect, identified as Majak Majok.

During the altercation, Majok reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Kuol Deng in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.

The local community is deeply disturbed by the incident.

“This is a sad moment for us in Mathiang, as tensions are running high between the two families. The family of the deceased is still considering taking the law into their own hands, and we are working tirelessly to diffuse the situation,” Aher stated.

He added that police have been dispatched to the scene of the incident and that the suspect is currently in custody, where he will be investigated further.

He urged both families to recognize the importance of unity among the people of Aweil and emphasized the necessity of following the law.

Incidents of violence are common in many parts of South Sudan and are often linked to economic difficulties.
