In a one-day meeting held in Yei River County, officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), along with local government representatives, gathered to reflect on the achievements and progress made in the county.
The meeting featured key government officials who play vital roles in the community’s development. Erasmus Usongo, the Head of Office in Yei, led the delegation from UNHCR.
The purpose of the visit, as stated by Erasmus Usongo, was to engage with government stakeholders and gain valuable insights into the various projects that UNHCR has been implementing across Yei River County.
The gathering served as an important feedback mechanism for the organization, enabling them to assess the impact of their initiatives and pinpoint areas requiring further attention and improvement.
During the meeting, Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme warmly welcomed the UNHCR team and expressed profound appreciation for their relentless support, acknowledging how it has positively influenced the county’s development trajectory.
He specifically mentioned the county’s five-year strategic plan, which emphasizes a commitment to sustainable development across multiple sectors.
Commissioner Taban urged UNHCR to extend its support further, particularly in areas critical to the well-being of Yei River County residents.
He highlighted the importance of enhancing education, healthcare services, agricultural development, infrastructural improvements, road construction, and access to clean water.
Furthermore, he stressed that while training for farmers is valuable, there is also a pressing need for agricultural mechanization.
He believes that investing in this technology could significantly boost farming productivity and contribute to food security in the county.
