Never late: 47-year-old mother sits S.4 exams

Defying age and societal norms, a 47-year-old mother of nine, Ms. Madina Kiden, is among the thousands of students sitting for the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) exams in Yei River County.

Ms. Kiden also a representative for persons with disabilities, expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Education for the early commencement of the exams.

Ms. Kiden urges women in the community not to underestimate their potential due to family obligations.

“Let women not look at themselves that they are just women holding family responsibilities, let them come out and join adult learning schools,” she said, advocating strongly for the inclusion of women in educational pursuits.

She encourages women to join adult learning programs and to embrace opportunities that could pave the way for a better future.

The exams, which began on December 2, 2024, are being conducted at four centres in Yei town. Among the candidates, 426 are female and 536 are male.

Joan Margret Lomora, the Director of Education for Yei River County, urged the candidates to approach the exams with confidence, reminding them of their years of preparation.

Gabriel Muul Mabior, the Senior Four Examinations Chief Monitor, warned candidates against cheating, stressing the importance of honesty and integrity.

Emmanuel Taban Seme, the Commissioner of Yei River County, also encouraged the candidates to focus and strive for excellence.

He advised them to manage their time effectively and read questions carefully.
