Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA) authority has confirmed arrival of essential drug supplies from national Ministry of Health, supported by UNICEF, after the area was without crucial medications for five months.
“The UNICEF and the Government of South Sudan have supplied us with all types of drugs and hospital settings except the drugs for snakebites or anti-venoms and for dog bites or anti-rabies. The government of Ruweng will buy these drugs and some laboratory reagents and x-ray films,” said Elizabeth Achol Bol, the Minister of Health for RAA.
The medical supplies, which arrived from Juba on Friday, are expected to last for six months. Minister Achol noted that recent floods had increased the number of malaria cases and snake bites in the area, and the new supplies will significantly improve the situation.
The distribution of these supplies began on Monday and will cover three hospitals and primary health care centers (PHCCs) in the area.
This timely intervention is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to the communities affected by the drug shortage, ensuring better healthcare access and addressing the surge in medical cases due to the floods.
