Christmas turned into a nightmare, as unknown assailant launched mayhem during night celebration killing three people in Yei River County.
Betty Tabu, Salume Kevin Betty and Agnes Tabu, met a tragic death on a day, the world was celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Scary pictures, which could not be published for public consumption, due to the distressing nature, show some of the bodies churned into ashes, beyond recognition.
One surviving family member, Daniel Luate, a brother to a man whose family was burnt into ashes, disclosed that, the incident happened at around 7:30 PM when they had left to the streets.
“A man, who is an in-law to our family came with a gun and set all the houses on fire and shot at the women including a child of 12 years old girl. The girl was next to the doors, trying to escape from the heavy fire,” Luate explained.
According to Luate, the gunman later disappeared until now, nobody knows his whereabouts.
“We are really lucky to survive from that incident. If we haven’t gone to the road side, we would be trapped inside,” he sighed.
Luate expressed worry that the attacker might return to inflict more havoc on the remaining family members.
“We still have fear of staying in the same family because the man could come back and shoot again but I wish the government could come and give us protection until the situation calms down” he stressed.
Though Luate points at an in-law, for the heinous atrocity, the police are yet to probe and arrest whoever orchestrated the incident.
According to the county police inspector, Maj. General, Ali Abdullatif, no suspect has been apprehended to the murder of the three victims in a family, brutally shot and burnt into ashes during Christmas night celebration.
“Am really surprised to hear that unknown man shot and burnt three women into ashes at their home, last night during 2024 Christmas and we are still gathering information about the incidence,” he said.
