Police in Aweil South County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, reported that a man killed his wife during a disagreement regarding reunion of her daughter’s children with their family.
The woman had brought the children into their home without the husband’s consent.
The incident occurred on Monday in Malek-Alel, the headquarters of Aweil South County.
Colonel Deng Yel Ngor stated that the man took the law into his own hands and violently attacked his wife with a thick tree trunk, striking her in the neck, which resulted in her instantaneous death.
The suspect, identified as Angok Madut Akol, killed his wife, Achol Deng, 44, following a minor dispute in the family. Yel mentioned that local residents claimed the man was under the influence of alcohol or a local brew known as aragi at the time of the attack.
“The initial report indicates that he was drunk. He expressed that he did not want his daughter’s children to be brought into their home, as his wife unilaterally decided to do so without informing him,” said a police inspector.
He urged the public to refrain from resorting to violence when disputes arise within families and to seek better approaches to resolve such critical issues.
Authorities in Gogrial East County of Warrap State reported an increase in violence. A woman died from severe wounds after her husband stabbed her in the stomach and buttocks.
Although her name has not been revealed, she was reportedly stabbed in the chest, stomach, and buttocks.
She was rushed to Kuajok and later referred to Aweil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on December 28, 2024.
Local residents noted that instances of violence tend to rise during the Christmas and New Year festivities due to the financial pressures on men to meet the demands of their families.
Earlier in December, a young girl in Aweil West County tragically took her own life after her parents informed her that they could not afford Christmas clothes for her. This devastating decision left relatives and neighbors in shock.
