President Salva Kiir has applauded Joint security operation forces for maintaining order during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to a statement extended to the media, Kiir, who resumed work officially on Thursday, appreciated the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) for the excellent work that allowed citizens to celebrate peacefully in the country.
“President Kiir expressed his profound appreciation to the citizens, the military, and all the regular forces for maintaining peace and order during the festive season.” the statement partly read.
According to the statement, the head of state reiterated the need for forces to continue with such commitment in their work.
President Kiir, however, urged the citizens to continue with the similar cooperation and unity they showed during the festive season.
“The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Ambassador Chol Mawut Ajongo, revealed that the President wished the citizens a prosperous New Year and called upon the people to maintain the culture of peace and unity they had exhibited during the Christmas and New Year festivities,” the statement read.
Regardless of the delay of salaries, Kiir called on government employees to remain dedicated and focused in delivering essential services to the people.
Kiir reiterated his commitment to peace and stability across the country in 2025.
“The Head of State reaffirmed his commitment to furthering efforts to restore peace and stability across the country throughout 2025,” the statement read.
To ensure a peaceful celebration of New Year 2025, the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) warned the public and security forces to refrain from celebratory gunfire.
Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Paul Nang Majok said that those who disregard this warning will face severe penalties.
Gen. Paul stated during the final briefing of the joint security forces assigned to maintain public safety during the New Year celebrations that violators would face strict repercussions, including imprisonment.
“No random shooting or celebratory shooting during the new year; those who will be shooting in the area should be arrested,” Nang said.
Although there were some challenges during the Christmas and New Year celebration, some members of the public appreciated the forces for their efforts.
