Madhol Field Hospital ready, awaits handover

Installation of Madhol Field Hospital in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has been completed.

The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, H.E. Simon Ober Mawut, toured the state-of-the-art facility on Thursday to inspect its progress.

Joined by a delegation that included the State speaker, deputy governor, and minister of health, governor Uber revealed that the hospital is a donation from the United Arab Emirates.

It’s a gift to President Salva Kiir and his special envoy for programs, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, who hails from the same payam.

The hospital, known as Madhol Field Hospital, was donated by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE and Prince of Abu Dhabi.

An official post on the state government’s social media page confirmed the governor’s visit to the construction site, where he inspected progress alongside his team, including state officials.

Governor Uber met with engineers and medical staff working on the facility, which is being constructed by Turmaks, a subcontractor for Burjeel Hospital Holdings, the project’s funding agency.

According to the government’s post, the initiative originated from Dr. Bol Mel’s discussions with UAE officials during a visit to Dubai last year, which led to the approval of the hospital donation.

In August of last year, a UAE delegation, accompanied by Governor Uber, assessed the area for the hospital’s feasibility. This was followed by the governor’s trip to Dubai in November 2024 to oversee the project’s development.

Local residents are optimistic about the new hospital, as it will serve not only Madhol but also neighboring communities in Warrap, Abyei, and surrounding areas.

However, concerns remain regarding the hospital’s future operations, particularly the availability of trained medical personnel, such as surgeons, and the ongoing shortages of essential medications in health facilities across the country.
