Imehejek administrator warns against unnecessary bush-burning

By Ijoo Bosco

Authorities in Imehejek administrative area are warning communities against the unnecessary burning of fires, fearing that the flames could still consume agricultural produce in gardens.

Imehejek Chief Administrator Mathew Oromo cautioned his communities to avoid past scenarios in which reckless burning during the dry season destroyed hundreds of local gardens.

This warning comes just a day after thousands of farms were rescued in Idali village within the Imehejek administrative area, while five huge farms were consumed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

In an exclusive interview with this publication on Thursday, the Chief Administrator emphasized that there are still farm products in the fields that need to be protected.

“I just want to tell the people of Imehejek administrative area that this month is so dangerous and we still have some of our food on the farm, so, so they have to be careful with the issue of using the fire,” he said.

He advised those who smoke or cook in the fields to be extremely careful with fire, adding that once the farm burns and the produce is destroyed, “we will have nothing to sustain us in the coming months.”

He stated some villages have been burned down due to the misuse of fire, advising against allowing children to play with fire around villages, in farms, and in the bushes.

The Chief further warned those hunting rats and bush meat must be mindful of where they burn and must know how to control the fire to prevent it from damaging our farms.

He also encourages communities to remain vigilant at all times and to be wary of wild meat hunters who often use fire during hunting season to scare animals for their personal gain.
