Pibor prioritizes service delivery in SSP 7.9 billion budget

By Manas James Okony

Council of Ministers of Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) approved a budget of SSP 7.9 billion for 2024/2025 fiscal year on Friday, with a strong emphasis on service delivery.

Following the cabinet’s first session for 2025, GPAA Information Minister Jacob Werchum Jouk spoke to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, stating that the budget was unanimously approved after being presented by the finance ministry.

It will be submitted to parliament on Monday for further deliberation and eventual enactment as law.

Minister Jouk highlighted that the budget prioritizes the delivery of goods and services and covers operational costs for the government, noting, “A budget of 7,951,797,000 South Sudan Pounds has been passed by the Council of Ministers in its first meeting on Friday morning in Pibor town.”

“The budget will focus on providing essential services, supporting government operations, and ensuring salaries for our civil servants. It has been allocated among various ministries, commissions, and counties,” he elaborated.

When questioned about the budget’s funding sources, the minister disclosed that the GPAA will depend entirely on financial assistance from Juba.

“As a government, we are unable to generate local revenue due to blocked roads; we rely solely on the national government for funding.”
