Police detains 4 murder suspects in Aweil

Aweil police are detaining four suspects accused of fatally stabbing a 22-year-old man in Aweil Town over the weekend.

The victim’s body was discovered dumped in a forested area near Kuom Highway, leading towards Wau.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, the incident was reported on Saturday, prompting immediate dispatch of investigators to the scene.

Residents of Deng Nhial neighborhood in Aweil Town attribute the incident to the increasing criminal activities by young people under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

An anonymous woman claimed that the four suspects, apprehended by the police, are believed to have stabbed Buoi Bol while he was returning home from the town center.

She described the suspects as a feared group within the neighborhood, known for their appearance and alleged involvement in criminal activities.

“These boys are ones among those in a mafia or group of criminals. They loiter at night here and their dressing style is unique and they are identifiable altogether, it is said that they kill the innocent young man, Buoi” said the reliable source.

Acknowledging the growing concern about crime, the Commissioner of Police, Thomas Wani confirmed that the town faces a challenge from criminals under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“We received the report on Saturday and we sent the officers to the sites on the same day till they were 4 suspects were apprehended. These suspects are now behind bars, and will arraigned in court,” he asserted.

“The post mortem results show that the deceased died from serious knife injuries and we suspect that the boys acted under the drugs effectiveness or severity after inhaling them,” he added.

Thomas Wani urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing vital information regarding security concerns.

The state government is currently dealing with economic challenges and the widespread issue of drug abuse, particularly Tramadol. The government previously implemented a ban on these substances.
