In a bid to enhance operational efficiency within the institution, Board of Directors of South Sudan Revenue Authority [SSRA] has announced the appointment of several officials into the positions of commissioners and deputy commissioners.
This decision is as per provisions of South Sudan Revenue Authority Act of 2016 amended 2023, as well as the staff regulations and scheme of service approved by the Council of Ministers on November 11, 2022.
The board also acknowledges Cabinet Resolution No. 104/2022 and Presidential Republican Order No. 16/2022, which mandates the integration of the Customs Revenue Division into the SSRA in line with Section 3, Sub article 3 of South Sudan Revenue Authority Act 2016 amended 2023.
SSRA Board Chairperson, Stephen Dhieu announced the appointment of the following officials to the roles of commissioners and deputy commissioners in a permanent five-year contract—renewable based on performance.
Commissioner for Corporate Services, Mr. Kiir Yor Lual. Commissioner for Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Mr. Chol Paul Kur.
Commissioner for Internal Integrity Affairs, Mrs. Joyce William Wani. Commissioner for Customs Division, Mr. Akech Tong Malek. Commissioner for Internal Audit, Mr. Dut Kuol.
The board chairperson also appointed at least 10 deputy commissioners to various departments of the revenue authority as follows;
Deputy Commissioner for Input Tax Credit, Mr. Garang Maketh. Deputy Commissioner for Internal Headquarters Operations in Domestic Tax Revenue, Mr. Hakim Makuec.
Deputy Commissioner for State Operations, Mr. Ngunjuok Chuol. Deputy Commissioner for Customs, Headquarters Operations, Customs Division, Mr. Wani Bilal. Deputy Commissioner for Non-Tax Revenue, Mr. Manoi Athian Manoi.
Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Mr. Lejoli Noel Marley. Deputy Commissioner for Research and Policy, Mr. Maurice Madut Kon. Deputy Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement, Customs Division, Mr. Wani Joseph.
Deputy Commissioner for Trade Facilitation, Customs Division, Mrs. Zizi Makesodi Lila. And Deputy Commissioner for Taxpayer Services and Education, Mrs. Jackline Adut Deng.
Their appointment comes after deliberation and consideration of the recommendations from Stirling Consultants, a recruitment firm contracted to conduct interviews of internal and external candidates.
Following their appointment, Board Chairperson, Stephen Dhieu keynoted the move as a reflection of the Board’s commitment to strengthening the leadership within South Sudan Revenue Authority and ensuring effective revenue collection administration in South Sudan.
He believes, the new officials would bring aboard comprehensive skills and expertise and enhance operational efficiency to suit the institution’s ideals.
“The newly appointed Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will be instrumental in driving the Authority’s strategic objectives and enhancing operational efficiency,” stated Stephen Dhieu.
South Sudan Revenue Authority, Dhieu said, looks forward to the contribution of the new management team as they embark on their roles and remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity and service in the fulfilment of its mandate.
