Detectives in Aweil West County, in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, have apprehended a man suspected of murdering his nephew.
The suspect, a 70-year-old named Deng Guot Amuk, allegedly killed his nephew after accusing him of impregnating his wife twice.
Sadiq Hussein, the Deputy Director of Police at the Maper-Akot-Aru station in Aweil Town, reported that Amuk fled to Aweil Town, where he was caught while hiding.
Hussein explained that the suspect claimed that his nephew had an affair with his wife, resulting in two pregnancies—one occurring last year and the other recently.
Hussein stated that the police conducted a thorough search, leading to Amuk’s arrest in Aweil Town after he fled from Maker-Amuk village in Aweil West County. A case has been opened against him, and he will be arraigned in court.
“The suspect claims that his frustration over his nephew’s actions led him to commit the murder. After previously forgiving him for the first incident, he felt that the recent pregnancy demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law, which drove him to stab his nephew,” Hussein said.
Reports of violent incidents, including stabbings, have been on the rise, despite warnings from authorities urging people to seek legal recourse rather than resorting to violence.
