South Sudan delegation engages Pakistan’s SDG taskforce

A delegation from South Sudan, led by Deputy Speaker Mr. Kornelio Kon Ngu Akuck, met with Pakistan’s members of Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the SDGs on Tuesday.

This meeting marked a significant step toward fostering deeper cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.

South Sudan delegation included prominent figures such as Mr. Kom Kom Geng, Member of Parliament; Mr. Sajjad Hussain Shahid, Pakistan’s Ambassador for Sports to South Sudan; Mr. William Dogumo Agon, Executive Director of the Deputy Speaker’s Office; and Mr. James Marboto Katas, Executive Secretary.

The Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs was represented by former Convenor for SDGs and Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam; MNA Mr. Syed Hafeezuddin; and MNA Ms. Shaista Pervaiz.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss a range of important topics aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Key areas of focus included security concerns, the role of women in Parliament, sustainable business opportunities, and the establishment of trade relations between the two nations.

A major highlight of the discussion was the proposal to strengthen the Parliamentary friendship groups within the parliaments of both countries.

This initiative is expected to foster better understanding, promote cultural exchange, and enhance ties between South Sudan and Pakistan in the coming years.

The South Sudanese delegation expressed their admiration for Pakistan’s hospitality and took the opportunity to counter the negative portrayal of Pakistan by global media.

They commended the country’s commitment to regional peace and prosperity.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the South Sudanese delegation inviting Pakistan’s Members of Parliament to visit South Sudan.

This gesture was seen as an opportunity to further solidify the bonds of friendship and enhance diplomatic and sustainable economic relations between the two countries.

The productive discussions and the spirit of cooperation displayed by both sides marked an important milestone in the development of a deeper and more collaborative relationship between South Sudan and Pakistan.
