By Staff writer

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, also Chairman of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), convened a meeting on Thursday, with the party’s First Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. James Wani Igga.

The agenda was focused on pressing issues impacting South Sudan, particularly the ongoing conflicts in Upper Nile, Western Equatoria, and Western Bahr el Ghazal States.

Each of these regions has experienced turmoil that poses challenges to the stability and security of the nation.

Following the meeting, Dr. Igga held a media briefing where he elaborated on the discussions.

He highlighted the urgent need to restructure and strengthen the SPLM to enhance the party’s capability to effectively tackle the multitude of challenges that come with nation-building.

The restructuring is critical in ensuring that the SPLM remains a dynamic force in the political landscape.

Dr. Igga reaffirmed the SPLM’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace and fostering national unity.

He emphasized the party’s determination to devise sustainable solutions that address the most pressing issues facing South Sudan.

The meeting comes in the wake of arrests following escalating tensions after the White Army, a local armed youth group, captured an SSPDF base in Nasir County, Upper Nile State.

The government alleges the White Army is allied with the SPLM/A-IO, a claim the opposition denies.
