Deputy National Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services, David Yau Yau is in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPA) to assess cholera outbreak.
According to a statement seen by this outlet, Yau Yau discussed the situation with local politicians and legislators regarding the challenges faced by the community in combating cholera.
“As of today, March 26, 2025, the death toll in Greater Pibor has risen to 21, with 249 reported admissions,” the statement noted.
During the visit, Yau Yau assured the residents of GPA that he had coordinated with parliamentarians and health specialists from the National Ministry of Health.
He announced the establishment of a 10-member high-level committee to address the crisis.
Yau Yau mentioned that Dr. Kediende Mapuor Akec Chong, a public health physician from South Sudan and Chairman of the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) for South Sudan, has vaccines prepared and is currently arranging logistics for their transportation to Greater Pibor.
He emphasized that once the logistics are established, the Ministry will be able to deliver the vaccines promptly.
He added that once logistics are in place the Ministry can be able to deliver the vaccines timely.
