When Common Sense Replaces the Constitution

By Theem Isaac Machar Akot

When common sense replaces the constitution, a nation struggles with lawful governance. Besides, a lot of rights are lost, while a loss of one right leads to the loss of hundreds of rights. South Sudanese should be aware of this.

he cause of the nation’s political unrest and enigma is a rivalry between the Constitution and the use of common sense. We must be aware of having lost the application of our constitution away earlier. That is why the country’s peace agreement, economy, politics, and stability are wobbly.

Our leaders are in love with the use of common sense instead of the constitution, which limits human dubious urges in handling public matters. I have never seen a politically and economically stable lawless nation. It is the first time to learn of a regime that encourages the breach of the law and the use of common sense in running the country’s affairs. I can imagine how strong and stable this nation would be if it were lawful and had a constitutional government.

The world is aware of the civil wars fought for years and the tumult we still have at hand. The grievances and grudges we hold against each other are a resultant everlasting war between lawlessness and lawfulness. The fight is fierce and endless, and I eventually see no man win it. A breach of the constitution leads to the adoption of corrupt, fraudulent, tyrant, dictatorial, and cruel systems. Whereas the use of common sense gives room to every impulsive suggestion and decision without deliberating on the future aftermath.

The man who once said,” God leads, law the second and then comes to the human beings” had said mine and was not unknowledgeable either. Because God the Creator loves His children (we) live in peace. Meanwhile, the law maintains order, equality, and justice for all.

To sum it up, the crisis we have in this is a war between us and the Constitution because it (the Constitution) doesn’t visibly fight; it uses people. That’s why all the political messes result in armed confrontation among humans. I wish our leaders would be sensible enough to give the Constitution its chance. And we shall be a nation that is politically and economically stable.

Have a good day!
