As the first drops of the rainy season soak the fertile grounds of Lainya County, farmers embrace their annual agricultural preparations with determination and hope.
These rains signify the promise of a new season—fresh harvests, food security, and livelihood opportunities. Yet, their journey is far from straightforward, as massive cattle migrations continue to obstruct access to major farmlands, posing significant challenges.
The seasonal cattle movements, driven by the search for grazing pastures, have long disrupted farming activities in this region. Grazing animals often trample crops, erode fertile land, and lead to disputes between farmers and pastoralist communities. Despite these hurdles, the farmers of Lainya County refuse to be deterred. Their resilience reflects an unwavering commitment to providing for their families, maintaining food supplies, and contributing to the community’s well-being.
The Community Action for Learning and Livelihood (CALL) organization stands as a beacon of support for these farmers. Through grassroots efforts, CALL continues to advocate for peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists. Facilitating dialogues between the two communities, CALL seeks to promote sustainable solutions such as designated grazing areas and the adoption of climate-resilient farming techniques. Moreover, the organization empowers farmers with knowledge and resources to maximize their yields despite the adversities they face.
