By James innocent

Construction of three classroom blocks and latrines has kicked off at Yei Day Senior Secondary School.

The project with funding from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), is implemented by the Support Peace and Development Programme (SPDP).

The new blogs intends to reduce student congestion caused by a increase in returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Speaking at the construction site, Yei Levi, representing SPDP, expressed his satisfaction with the project’s progress.

“I am really happy to see the ongoing project which is going on well with great progress and we are grateful to UNMISS who have given us this project and we are grateful to see a team from UNMISS come and check the construction site,” he said.

Choma Lawrence, the SPDP engineer overseeing the project, stated that they are undertaking a quick-impact project to build three classrooms and a three-room latrine block at Yei Day Secondary School.

Lawrence further noted challenges such as rainfall hindering work and the need to source local materials from distant locations.

However, he assured that their experienced team is capable of completing the construction within a two-month timeframe.

Bingo Bokino Francis, the head teacher of Yei Day Secondary School, lauded UNMISS for their financial support to SPDP in executing this crucial construction project.

He emphasized the pressing need for new classrooms due to the overcrowding resulting from the influx of returnee students from Uganda and Congo.
