C.P.E RESULTS; Overall performance, impressive

National Ministry of General Education and Instructions, on Tuesday, released 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations results, with impressive performance.

National Minister of General Education and Instructions, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, declared the results after it was discussed and approved by the 20th National Examination Council meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Minister Kuyok, saw the participation of key education stakeholders, including state education ministers and vice-chancellors from the five public universities.

Addressing the press, Minister Kuyok expressed his delight in announcing the examination results, compiled by South Sudan National Examinations Council.

The minister described the overall results of the National examinations, conducted between November 18th and November 22nd, 2024, as notably positive.

A total of 79,010 candidates registered for the crucial primary school leaving examinations, with 43,266 males and 35,744 females. Of those registered, 77,264 candidates (42,257 males and 35,007 females) sat for the exams, administered across 1,814 schools clustered into 572 examination centers across the country.

In the report, 73,326 candidates successfully passed the exams, comprising 40,427 males and 32,899 females. This translates to an impressive overall pass rate of 94.9%, with a weighted score of 73.1 percentage performance index.

Further detailing the performance, the Minister highlighted those 13 candidates achieved scores between 450 and 500 marks, with the highest individual score being 453 marks.

The breakdown of candidate performance across different mark ranges is as follows: 450 – 500 Marks: 13 candidates, 400 – 449 Marks: 24,319 candidates, 300 – 399 Marks: 42,368 candidates, 250 – 299 Marks: 6,626 candidates, and 000 – 249 Marks (Failed): 3,878 candidates.

An analysis of subject performance revealed areas needing attention.

According to the Ministry, Mathematics and Islamic Religious Education (IRE) showed relatively underperformance in the 2024 CPE exams. Conversely, Science and Christian Religious Education (CRE) demonstrated the most significant improvement.

“So, science performance index was 79.9%. Christian religious education, the passing was 79.4%. English language was 71.2%. Social studies, 67.5%. Mathematics was 61.8%. Islamic religious education, as I said, almost half of the candidates that failed, so the passing was 51.1%” the minister explained.

In response to the challenges identified in Mathematics and IRE, Minister Kuyok announced that the Ministry will prioritize the recruitment and training of qualified teachers in these subjects to enhance curriculum delivery.

Kuyok who extended his congratulations to all the successful candidates, also commended the dedication of all stakeholders involved in the processing of the results, including the markers, staff of the Ministry of Education at all levels, and the Secretariat of the National Examinations Council.

The Ministry has advised the public that candidates can obtain their official results from the schools where they sat for the examinations.

Additionally, a convenient result-checking application is available via Digitel line by dialing *113# followed by the candidate’s index number.

Addressing potential delays in the academic calendar, Minister Kuyok acknowledged that some students had missed almost one term.

He assured that the results would be dispatched to the states as soon as the following day, from where they will be further distributed to schools, enabling students to begin the enrollment process for senior one.

The 20th Ordinary meeting of the National Examination Council, held in Juba on Tuesday, successfully concluded with the approval and official release of the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education Examination results.
