Northern Bahr El Gazal State’s Minister of Education toured several counties to assess conditions of school facilities and administration of education system.

On Friday, Minister Akoon Diing Angok visited Chelkou Payam in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr El Gazal State, after visiting Aweil South County, where he met with chiefs, teachers, women’s groups, and other community members.

During the meetings, Diing emphasized the importance of supporting all children in school.

“I would like to bring to your attention that the governor is aware of all the difficulties you are experiencing. Rest assured that we will do everything possible to improve the education system,” he stated.

“The practice of keeping girls out of school for the purpose of accumulating wealth is outdated. Send all children to school, including girls who have missed educational opportunities. Even if a girl was married off at a young age, she should be allowed to resume her education,” he added.

Angok acknowledged the challenges faced by the local population, including returnees from Sudan whose children are having difficulty accessing schools.

He said that he would engage with partners in the education sector to support these vulnerable children.

In a separate development, Governor Simon Ober Mawut visited Aweil East County on Friday to launch road construction projects undertaken by the Africa Resources Cooperation (ARC) company.

The projects aim to mitigate the threat of floods, similar to those of last year, which severely damaged roads and left many people unable to reach Aweil Town.
