Acting governor encourages students

Acting Governor of Western Equatoria State (WES), Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, has called on students and young people to stay focused on their individual goals and embrace personal growth.

He urged them not to follow the crowd but to instead chart their own path toward success.

The acting governor made the remarks during a meeting with the Western Equatoria State Students’ Union, operating under the umbrella of the WES Youth Union, to discuss pressing challenges facing students and youth across the state.

During the session, Mathew Mubarak, Chairperson of the WES Youth Union, presented a range of concerns, including the lack of office space and equipment, insufficient youth engagement programs, and the absence of reliable transportation to facilitate the Union’s operations.

He also raised alarm over the growing number of idle youth who are neither in school nor involved in any productive ventures, calling for increased investment in empowerment and engagement programs.

Student leaders further emphasized the challenges faced by those who have completed Senior Four, especially in securing scholarships and job opportunities.

They appealed for stronger support systems to bridge the gap between education and future employment.

In his response, Acting Governor Rimbasa praised the students for their unity, organization, and active civic engagement.

“Don’t follow the crowd; instead, set your own vision and goals,” he advised. “Choose friends who build your character and help you grow. Be learners—seek knowledge and inspiration from many sources.”

He reminded the youth that unity among young people is a catalyst for meaningful change, adding that leadership is about mentoring the next generation.

“As leaders, it is our duty to guide you. Stay focused, be patient, and persevere,” he concluded, assuring them of his administration’s support in addressing the concerns raised.
