Police authorities in Jonglei State have called on residents of Bor town to help report gang-related activities within the town to ensure a quicker police response.
This appeal follows a recent increase in crimes and robberies committed by gang members in Bor this week.
Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, 1st Lt. James Akech, the spokesperson for the Police in Jonglei State, stated that many gang members hide within different residential blocks, making it difficult for police to trace their whereabouts.
“At times, it’s challenging to get information on time. Sometimes an incident can happen, and it takes a long time for the police to receive information. Yes, we do patrol the town to deter crimes, but we need the community to join hands with us,” he added.
Mr. Akech urged leaders of residential blocks in Bor to report gang members who disturb the stability of Bor whenever necessary.
He further explained, “the community leader or block leader must know any new person residing in their location. If community members take the initiative to report crimes happening in their area, it will be very easy for us to intervene.”
He added that the gangs disturbing the town include members of the “West Coast” and “Ganya-talent” crews.
In recent weeks, many residents of Bor have experienced robberies by members of these crews in Bor town.
